Energy requirements for space heating & domestic hot water are taken into account as part of the SAP calculation for each new home, with renewables set to become the preferred method of providing these energy sources. Renewables can be anything from a wood burning stove to provide the space heating to solar thermal hot water systems or ground/air source heat pumps.
At the moment, probably the most cost effective strategy would be solar thermal alongside a wood burning stove with back boiler. This system will provide solar heat during the day & heat from the stove if required at night. These systems are connected to a thermal store to provide the initial heating requirement with an electric imersion heater as back up. The renewable's should provide enough energy to run an under floor wet heating system & the domestic hot water to your new home.
We at Staylor Design Associates are more than happy to provide you with help regarding your choice of renewable heating strategy. We can install the renewable systems once the building is complete but before the finishes are applied internally.
