Do I need planning permission?

In most cases, you will not need planning permission for a Garden Room/Office. The structure is classed as a temporary building and does not need permanent foundations like a traditional building.

Being below 2.5m at the highest point, the Garden Office has been developed to be within the ODPM (Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) guidelines. Although you are unlikely to require planning permission for your Garden Office these key questions are a good rule of thumb: You need to seek planning permission if:

1. You live in a conservation area or your home is a listed building, Flat or apartment
   
2. You wish to locate your Garden Office within 5 metres of your home or it takes up more than 50% of your garden space
   
3. You want to locate your Garden Office between your home and the highway ie front garden or you expect a large number of visitors to your Garden Office.
